How does parcel delivery from Amazon and international retailers work in Gibraltar?
Short answer
Many international retailers, including Amazon for selected items, deliver to Gibraltar through the Royal Gibraltar Post Office or by courier. Since the UK-EU treaty took provisional effect on 15 July 2026, import duty has been replaced by a transaction tax with a standard rate of 15% in the first year, and goods arriving from outside the EU, including from the UK, first pass through customs in Spain or Portugal.
Detailed answer
Will a retailer deliver?
It depends on the seller. Check at checkout that your Gibraltar address is accepted.
Postal deliveries
Parcels needing a signature or payment are held at Parcel Post, Unit E, Admiral Rooke Road (200 78364). Pay online at post.gi; home delivery is available for a fee.
Tax and customs after the treaty
- Transaction tax replaced import duty on 15 July 2026.
- Standard rate 15% in year one, rising to 16% and then 17%.
- Reduced and zero rates apply to qualifying goods such as food, medicines and books.
- Goods from outside the EU, including the UK, clear customs in Spain or Portugal first.
The old £25 postal threshold belonged to the former regime. Check post.gi for current charges.
Goods from EU sellers
The EU customs union removes customs duties, but transaction tax still applies on import into Gibraltar.
