Can I walk from the Gibraltar cruise terminal to town?
Short answer
Yes. Casemates Square, at the northern end of Main Street, is about a mile from the cruise terminal on level pavements, around a 15 to 20-minute walk.
Detailed answer
The cruise terminal sits on the western edge of town, and the walk into the centre is flat and easy. Most passengers follow the signposted route to Casemates Square, which you enter through the Grand Casemates Gates. From there, Main Street, mostly pedestrianised, runs south through the town.
If you prefer not to walk
Taxis and shared shuttles operate from the terminal to Casemates Square. Taxi and minibus tours of the Upper Rock also leave from the terminal.
Getting up the Rock
The Gibraltar Cable Car closed on 18 November 2025 for a complete rebuild, and is expected to reopen in 2027. While it is closed, the main ways up the Rock are a taxi or minibus tour or walking. The walk is steep and takes time, so allow for it if your ship's stay is short.
At the terminal
The terminal has a café, craft shops and a Gibraltar Tourist Board information office, where you can pick up maps.
