Will I be registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) when I fly into Gibraltar?
Short answer
Yes, if you are a non-EU visitor such as a UK citizen who does not live in Gibraltar. The Schengen check at Gibraltar airport, carried out by Spanish officers, includes EES registration, which records your fingerprints and facial image in place of a passport stamp.
Detailed answer
EES became fully operational at Schengen external borders on Friday 10 April 2026, and it has applied at Gibraltar airport since the Treaty began to apply provisionally on Wednesday 15 July 2026. First-time registration takes longer than later crossings, so allow extra time on arrival.
Holders of Gibraltar identity cards and Gibraltar civilian registration cards, of any nationality, are exempt from EES. They should use the corridors reserved for them and EU citizens, and present both their passport and their Gibraltar card. On Tuesday 13 October 2026 the Government of Gibraltar confirmed that the European Commission had issued further instructions to Schengen authorities that Gibraltar residents should not be registered in EES. Residents who have been registered can ask for the record to be erased.
EU citizens, including British-Irish dual nationals using an Irish passport, are not registered.
