Are Gibraltar’s tourist attractions open on Sundays and public holidays?

Short answer

The Upper Rock Nature Reserve and its attractions open every day, including Sundays and most public holidays, closing only on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Several museums and heritage sites close on Sundays and public holidays, so check before you go.

Detailed answer

Open every day: the Upper Rock Nature Reserve, including St Michael's Cave, the Skywalk, the Apes' Den, the tunnels and the Moorish Castle, opens seven days a week. It closes only on Christmas Day and New Year's Day, and closes early at 15:30 on National Day, Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. Outdoor sites such as the Alameda Botanic Gardens, Trafalgar Cemetery and Europa Point can also be visited on Sundays.

Closed on Sundays and public holidays:

The Gibraltar National Museum opens Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 18:00 and on Saturdays from 10:00 to 14:00.

The Gibraltar Natural History Museum at Parson's Lodge opens Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 14:00.

The Gorham's Cave viewing platform opens Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00 and is also closed on Saturdays.

Limited or no Sunday opening:

Europa Point Lighthouse runs guided tours on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and self-guided visits on Thursdays and Fridays, with no Sunday sessions listed.

The Alameda Wildlife Conservation Park lists hours from Monday to Saturday only, and is closed on Good Friday, Christmas Day and National Day.

Shops are a separate question. Most close on Sundays and public holidays, although the large food stores open seven days a week and some smaller shops may open.

Gibraltar observes the UK's public holidays plus four additional days, so check the holiday calendar if your visit falls near one.
