Which mobile networks and internet providers operate in Gibraltar?

Short answer

Gibtelecom is Gibraltar's main mobile network and also supplies fibre broadband, while u-mee and GibFibre provide home broadband services. UK and EU SIM cards work in Gibraltar, but Gibraltar is outside the EU and is not part of the UK, so it is not always included in roaming bundles and you should check your tariff before relying on it.

Detailed answer

Local providers

  • Gibtelecom: mobile contracts and no-contract plans, home phone and fibre broadband including gigabit services.
  • u-mee: fibre-to-the-home broadband, IPTV and home phone.
  • GibFibre: residential and business broadband.

The sector is regulated by the Gibraltar Regulatory Authority. The dialling code is +350 and local numbers have eight digits.

Using a UK or EU SIM

Gibraltar is outside the EU and is not part of the UK, so roaming terms vary. Some UK networks charge separately or require a daily pass. Check your provider's country list before you travel.

Accidental roaming

Phones can connect to Spanish networks near the frontier and occasionally to Moroccan networks on the western side of the Rock. Selecting a Gibraltar network manually avoids unexpected charges.

Staying longer

A local SIM is usually the most economical option for extended stays. When setting up broadband, ask which services are available at your exact address.
