Which Protestant and other Christian churches are there in Gibraltar?

Short answer

Alongside the Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, Gibraltar has a Methodist congregation, which currently worships at the cathedral, and several evangelical churches including Cityline Church, New Life Church and Church on the Rock. St Andrew's Church of Scotland closed in 2022.

Detailed answer

Methodist

Methodism in Gibraltar dates from 1769, when soldier preachers began meeting in a sergeant major's home, and the first Methodist church was built on Prince Edward's Road in 1809. The congregation later moved to Wesley House on Main Street. In 2025 the Methodist Church in Britain reported that the Gibraltar congregation was temporarily holding its services in the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity.

Church of Scotland

St Andrew's Church on Governor's Parade opened for worship in 1854. Falling attendance led to its last services in November 2022 and the building was later sold. It is being converted into a multi-faith and cultural venue called The Rock Sanctuary, with a formal opening planned for May 2027.

Evangelical and independent churches

  • Cityline Church: a bilingual evangelical church at 11 Hospital Steps, with Sunday worship at 11am
  • New Life Church: a reformed church meeting at the St John Ambulance complex, 26 Queensway Road, with a Sunday service at 11am
  • Church on the Rock: an evangelical church with a Sunday service at 11am
  • Bethel Christian Fellowship and Living Waters Church: both listed on Wellington Front

Orthodox

There is no permanent Orthodox church. A monthly Divine Liturgy is held at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity or St Bernard's Church, and Greek Orthodox services take place from time to time.

Small congregations change venue and times more often than the larger churches, so check each church's website or social media before attending.
