Detailed answer
The Gibraltar Barbary Macaque is a species of tailless monkey native to North Africa but famously found in Gibraltar. They are the only wild monkeys found in Europe and are a significant tourist attraction. These macaques live on the Upper Rock Nature Reserve and are subject to conservation efforts. The Barbary Macaques of Gibraltar hold cultural and historical importance, with a longstanding legend suggesting that British rule over Gibraltar will end if the macaques ever leave the rock. Their population is carefully managed to ensure their health and the safety of visitors, and feeding them is prohibited by law to prevent dependency on human food.
