Can I drive my car from Spain into Gibraltar?
Short answer
Yes. Since 15 July 2026 vehicles cross the land frontier without routine immigration or customs checks. Traffic in Gibraltar drives on the right, as in Spain, and your insurance must cover driving in Gibraltar.
Detailed answer
The customs union between Gibraltar and the EU removed customs checks on goods at the land frontier, and the Schengen arrangements removed routine immigration checks, so cars pass through without stopping for border formalities. Gibraltar driving licences are recognised in the neighbouring Campo de Gibraltar area under the Treaty.
Gibraltar is small and parking in the town centre is limited, so many day visitors park in La Línea and walk across. If you are driving a hire car, check that the rental agreement and insurance allow you to take the vehicle into Gibraltar.
