How do I find an emergency dentist in Gibraltar?

Short answer

Adults registered with the GHA can get emergency dental treatment at the GHA dental clinic, booked by phone on 200 07809; it is not a walk-in service. Out of hours, severe problems such as bleeding, facial swelling or trauma are handled through the Accident and Emergency Department.

Detailed answer

Who the GHA treats

Adults registered at the Primary Care Centre, or holding a Gibraltar Health card, can be seen in an emergency, after which they are referred back to their own dentist. Charges may apply. Treatment is free for people in full-time education, people on supplementary benefits and people with an exemption. Routine adult dentistry is provided by private practices.

Booking an emergency appointment

  • Phone 200 07809. Lines are open Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4pm, and 8.30am to 10am at weekends and on public holidays.
  • Clinic hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 12.40pm and 2pm to 4.40pm.
  • Emergency clinics, including at weekends, are held at the Children's Health Centre.
  • [email protected] is for cancellations only.

Out of hours

A dentist is on call out of hours and at weekends for children, and for severe adult problems such as bleeding, facial swelling and trauma. Contact the Accident and Emergency Department at St Bernard's Hospital. Adults with toothache are asked to attend the emergency clinic the following day. In a medical emergency, call 999.

Visitors

The UK Foreign Office says British nationals who live in the UK can get emergency treatment in Gibraltar by showing a British passport, and that a GHIC or EHIC is no substitute for travel insurance. Visitors with dental pain that is not an emergency should contact a private dental practice and check what their insurance covers.
