How does Gibraltar's national football team operate and where do they play home matches?
Short answer
Gibraltar has been a full UEFA member since 2013 and a FIFA member since 2016, competing in European Championship, World Cup and Nations League qualifying. While the Victoria Stadium is demolished and rebuilt as an 8,000-seat national stadium, home matches are played at the Europa Point Stadium at Europa Sports Park.
Detailed answer
Membership
The Gibraltar Football Association joined UEFA in 2013 and FIFA in 2016. Gibraltar enters all major qualifying competitions and the UEFA Nations League.
The team
The squad is drawn largely from players with other jobs who play in the local Gibraltar Football League, with some based at clubs abroad.
Where home matches are played
Early home fixtures were played at the Estadio Algarve in Faro, Portugal. From 2018 the team played at the Victoria Stadium under a UEFA exemption. Demolition of the Victoria Stadium began in 2025 for a new UEFA Category 4 stadium of around 8,000 seats, so home matches are now played at Europa Sports Park, known in UEFA matches as the Europa Point Stadium.
Visitor tips
Tickets are released through the Gibraltar FA. The ground is compact, so major fixtures sell out quickly.
