How does the Gibraltar Health Authority (GHA) system work?

Short answer

Public healthcare in Gibraltar is run by the Gibraltar Health Authority under a contributory scheme called the Group Practice Medical Scheme (GPMS). Registered patients receive GP, hospital and mental health care at no charge, apart from a £5 per item prescription charge capped at £15.

Detailed answer

The GHA delivers primary, secondary and mental health care through the Primary Care Centre, St Bernard's Hospital and the Ocean Views Mental Health Facility.

Who is entitled

Entitlement comes from the Group Practice Medical Scheme (GPMS). Insured persons paying Gibraltar social insurance (and their dependants) and persons ordinarily resident in Gibraltar may register and receive care at no charge.
