Detailed answer
Star Flyer is a four-masted barquentine built at the Langerbrugge yard in Ghent, Belgium, and delivered in 1991. Star Clippers gives a gross tonnage of 2,298, a length of 115.5 metres including the bowsprit, up to 166 guests and a crew of 74. It carries 16 sails with 3,365 square metres of canvas. The line sells it to luxury-loving travellers who enjoy the traditions of sailing ships, and says life aboard is much like being on a private yacht. On board are two swimming pools, teak decks, open-seating dining, the indoor and outdoor Tropical Bar, a Piano Bar and an Edwardian-style library.
How busy will town be?
The upcoming visits listed on this page show the passengers expected on each call and any other ships in port the same day. Town is busiest when several ships are in at once or a large ship arrives at a weekend. A ship carrying a few hundred passengers makes little difference on its own.
Can you sail on it from nearby?
Yes, from Malaga. The Gibraltar call is on a nine-night voyage from Malaga to Las Palmas leaving on Wednesday 4 November 2026, with stops at Gibraltar, Cadiz, Safi in Morocco, Lanzarote and Tenerife, and it can be combined with the Atlantic crossing to St Maarten. Star Flyer reaches Malaga on a ten-night sailing from Valletta starting on Sunday 25 October 2026. In 2027 it leaves Malaga for Valletta on Friday 16 April 2027, and repeats the Malaga to Las Palmas voyage via Gibraltar from Wednesday 3 November 2027, a call not yet on the port schedule.
