Where do cruise ships dock in Gibraltar?

Short answer

Cruise ships berth at the Gibraltar Cruise Terminal on the North Mole, on the western side of the Rock, about 1 km or a 10-minute walk from the city centre.

Detailed answer

Cruise ships berth alongside the Gibraltar Cruise Terminal on the North Mole, on the western side of the Rock. Ships can berth on both sides of the terminal, and the 940 metres of quay can take up to four medium-sized ships or two large ships at the same time. The Port Authority says ships can be alongside within an hour of leaving the main shipping lanes. Inside the terminal there is a Gibraltar Tourist Board information office, open when a ship is in port, along with toilets, telephones, a bar and cafeteria, arts and crafts shops and display areas. The terminal is inside a restricted security zone, with x-ray machines and metal detectors. The Port Authority gives the distance from the berth to the city centre as about 1 km, a walk of around 10 minutes. The walk to Casemates Square, at the northern end of Main Street, is mostly flat. Taxis and the shuttle bus wait outside the terminal. Citibus routes 5 and 10 stop on North Mole Road, with access to the port and the cruise terminal, on their way south to Queensway and Boyd Street. In the other direction they stop on Waterport Road and at Market Place, by the northern entrance to the city centre and Casemates Square, before continuing to the frontier and the airport. If you have limited mobility, the Gibraltar Tourist Board lists a mobility scooter hire service close to the cruise terminal; book ahead, as rentals depend on availability. Several ships can be in port on the same day. Check the Port Authority's cruise schedule for your date, and allow extra time on busy days for taxis, tours and the walk back to the ship.
