I need a visa for Spain. Do I need a visa to visit Gibraltar?

Short answer

Yes. Since 15 July 2026, nationals who need a Schengen short-stay visa also need one to enter Gibraltar, and Gibraltar recognises Schengen short-stay visas issued by any Schengen State. UK visas no longer give entry to Gibraltar, and the UK visa application route for Gibraltar closed on 8 July 2026.

Detailed answer

Where the main purpose of the trip is to stay in Gibraltar, Spain issues the visa. Nationals of countries that are visa-exempt for the Schengen area can visit Gibraltar without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.

The Government of Gibraltar has warned that flying into Gibraltar is not a way around Schengen visa requirements, and that the refusal of a UK visa creates no right to enter Gibraltar. Apply for the Schengen visa before making non-refundable bookings.
