Is the Europa Point Trinity Lighthouse tour accessible for wheelchair users or people with limited mobility?

Short answer

The tower climb is not accessible: it involves 117 steps on a spiral staircase, and access is subject to age, height and mobility requirements. A base-level ticket gives access to the ground-floor displays for visitors who prefer not to climb, but wheelchair users should contact the operator before visiting to confirm step-free access.

Detailed answer

Climbing the tower

Guided tours and full-access visits climb the lighthouse tower's spiral staircase, 117 steps, to the Lantern Room. For safety reasons, access to the tower is restricted to visitors:

  • aged 7 or over
  • at least 1.1 metres tall
  • able to meet the operator's mobility requirements

Footwear

Suitable closed footwear is compulsory in the tower. High heels, flip-flops, open sandals and unstable shoes are not permitted, and visitors without suitable footwear cannot climb. The team may be able to lend shoes, but cannot guarantee sizes.

If you cannot climb

A base-level ticket covers the ground floor with interpretation and displays. The operator does not publish detailed step-free access information, so wheelchair users and visitors with limited mobility should contact [email protected] or the Gibraltar Heritage Trust on +350 200 42844 before travelling.

Getting there

Parking at Europa Point is free but limited, especially at weekends, in summer and on event days. Europa Point is exposed and can be windy even on warm days.
