Does Gibraltar have its own airport?

Short answer

Yes. Gibraltar International Airport sits at the northern end of Gibraltar on the border with Spain, with direct flights to London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Manchester, Bristol and Birmingham.

Detailed answer

Joshua Hassan Gibraltar International Airport is on British Lines Road at the northern end of the peninsula, right on the border with Spain. It is about a five-minute drive from the cruise port. The airport is known for its runway, which is crossed by Winston Churchill Avenue, the road into Gibraltar from the frontier. Since the airport tunnel opened in 2023, cars use the tunnel, while pedestrians, cyclists, scooter and mobility scooter users can still cross the runway when it is open. If the lights turn red, wait at the barrier and follow any directions from the police. All scheduled flights are to and from the UK. British Airways flies from London Heathrow, and easyJet flies from London Gatwick, Manchester, Bristol and Birmingham. The average flight time is about 2 hours 45 minutes. For more destinations, Malaga and Jerez airports are each about 1 hour 30 minutes by road from the frontier. There is a taxi stand outside the terminal and a 24-hour radio taxi service on +350 200 70027. Citibus runs routes 5, 10 and X5 from the airport to various parts of Gibraltar. Our guide to getting from the airport to the town centre covers walking times and options. Since the UK/EU Treaty began to apply provisionally on Wednesday 15 July 2026, arriving passengers pass both a Gibraltar immigration check and a Schengen check at the airport, and visitors must meet the entry criteria for the Schengen area. A UK visa or ETA is not needed. British nationals who are not resident in Gibraltar need a passport issued less than 10 years before arrival and valid for at least 3 months after the date they plan to leave, and may be asked for a return ticket, travel insurance, proof of funds or a hotel booking. EU nationals can use a passport or national ID card. Holders of Gibraltar identity cards and civilian registration cards have their own arrangements.
