How do I get from London to Gibraltar?

Short answer

Fly direct to Gibraltar from London Heathrow with British Airways or from London Gatwick with easyJet, or fly to Malaga and continue by road, which takes about 90 minutes.

Detailed answer

Direct scheduled flights to Gibraltar come from the UK. From London, British Airways flies from Heathrow and easyJet flies from Gatwick. easyJet also flies to Gibraltar from Manchester, Bristol and Birmingham. The Government of Gibraltar describes the UK airports with Gibraltar services as all less than three hours away by air. Schedules vary by season, so check the airlines' own websites for current days and fares. Since Wednesday 15 July 2026, when the UK/EU Treaty on Gibraltar began to apply provisionally, Gibraltar's entry conditions for short-stay visitors have been aligned with Schengen rules. Gibraltar remains outside the Schengen Area. When you land at Gibraltar International Airport you pass two checks in sequence: a Gibraltar immigration check and a Schengen check carried out by the Spanish authorities, including registration under the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) where it applies. Once you have cleared both, you can cross the land border into Spain freely. British citizens need a passport issued within the previous 10 years and valid for at least three months after the day they plan to leave Gibraltar or the Schengen Area. Time spent in Gibraltar now counts alongside time in the Schengen Area towards the limit of 90 days in any 180-day period. The other option is to fly from London to Malaga, which has a wider choice of flights and can help with dates and prices. You go through Schengen entry checks at Malaga airport, including EES where it applies. From Malaga, Gibraltar is approximately 90 minutes by road. You can hire a car, take a coach to La Línea de la Concepción, whose bus station is a five-minute walk from the frontier, or use a taxi or pre-booked transfer. There are no longer routine passport checks at the land border between Spain and Gibraltar, though you should still carry your passport.
