EES Erasure Request Letter for Gibraltar Residents
Holders of Gibraltar identity cards and civilian registration cards are exempt from the EU's Entry/Exit System (EES) under the UK/EU treaty arrangements. Many have nevertheless been registered, either before the arrangements took effect on 15 July 2026 or wrongly since. On 13 October 2026 the Government of Gibraltar confirmed that anyone in either position can ask the Schengen State that recorded them to erase the record, and published a template letter for doing so. Acting promptly matters, because a record can show you as still inside the Schengen Area after you return to Gibraltar by land, which may cause difficulties or refusal of entry the next time you travel.
If the EU's Check how long you can stay tool shows your days in the Schengen Area running down, or none left, while you are in Gibraltar, you have been registered in EES and can use this page to request erasure of the record.
How it works
- Fill in your details below. The Government's letter fills in as you type.
- Choose the country where your record was made. The letter is addressed to that country's authority, with the Government of Gibraltar copied in so it can follow your request.
- Press a send button to open the email in Gmail, Outlook or your mail app. Attach your passport and both sides of your Gibraltar card, then send.
Keep any reply you receive. If a border officer registers you despite your Gibraltar card, or your erasure request is refused, report it separately to the Government at [email protected].
Everything you type stays on your device. Gibraltar Bites does not store or see any of it.
